El Laboratorio se creó en 1962; forma parte del Centro de Biofísica y Bioquímica del Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciónes Científicas (IVIC). Los proyectos que realiza el personal del Laboratorio estudian el movimiento de agua e iones a través de epitelios, señaladamente del riñón.
